I am delighted to warmly welcome you to the official website of the Embassy of Jamaica in Japan and I hope you will find it a useful source of information about our work and the services offered.
The Embassy was opened in 1992, and our mission is to strengthen the excellent relations between Jamaica and Japan which we affectionately call the J-J Partnership. In addition to Japan, five other countries in the Asia-Pacific region fall under the Embassy’s jurisdiction—South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Despite vast geographical distance and as maritime nations, Jamaica and Japan have enjoyed a strong and enduring partnership for over 60 years - built on common values and shared interests. 2024 was a particularly significant year for the Embassy as it marked the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and Japan—the Kanreki anniversary, as well as the 2nd Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year.
I am pleased that relations between Jamaica and Japan are also characterised by an active cooperation programme, as well as trade and investment ties. People-to-people connections form an important pillar of the relations, including through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET Programme), cultural exchanges and the sister city relationship between Tottori Prefecture in Japan and Westmoreland Parish in Jamaica. Japan is one of Jamaica’s strongest development partners through its Official Development Assistance (ODA) administered by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In addition to providing development assistance and serving as the largest market for our world-renowned Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, Japanese investments in Jamaica’s agricultural and energy sectors are significant.
The Jamaican Embassy in Japan is committed to promoting friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and peoples and in making progress in Jamaica-Japan relations as well as in the countries under the jurisdiction of the Embassy.
I now invite you to explore our website and I hope you will not only find valuable information about the services our Embassy offers but also information about travel and tourism, opportunities on trade and investment, and cultural issues, among others.
